Why would someone decide to sit down and spend hours and hours cutting out stencils?
Well there's something about the smell of spray paint and then there's that first very exciting test spray, you really don't know what your piece will look like until you do that first test run and then after that the next one is always slightly different.
It's fun and there are endless possibilities.
On a more serious note it forces you to take a closer look at your own ideas as an artist.
You might have a good idea but is it really necessary to mass produce it? ......

In memory of Carlos “Cilo” Rodriguez.
Back in the autumn of 2013, my good friend Carlos wasn’t feeling very good. He had been in and out of the Veteran's Hospital and he had stopped tattooing. He would call me from his daughter's cell phone in the middle of the night. I would get out of bed, put a lease on my dog and go for a walk. We would talk for about an hour or so or until one of us ran out of batteries. We had first met at Medusa Tattoo on St. Marks Place in NYC in 1998 and then a few years later at Merlin's Art Attack in South Beach......
